As a young boy, I always believed that
because I went to church and my mum was a Christian that I was too. It
wasn't until I was a lot older in my mid teens that it began to dawn
upon me, that I was a natural sinner, and that this sin was ruining my
life. I felt guilty and ashamed that my sin had hurt others and
especially God. If I had died there and then, I knew I would be going
to hell. In addition, I realised that many of my friends were
Christians, and that they had an outlook and a goal in life that I
never shared.
They had something I never imagined! On my
16th Birthday on my bed at 12.50am, I asked Jesus for forgiveness. That
was 8 years ago now, since then, to be honest it has been a battle, a
battle to be a Godly man and live for Jesus, obeying him in every
aspect of my life. In 2001 I took a big step that I felt God had led to
do. I left my home in Scotland, and came to Derby to work as a
volunteer for a year with Woodlands Church. It was a most rewarding
year. I worked with young people and shared my faith through my life
and leading clubs and other work. Now I am training to become a science
teacher, here in Derby. Being a Christian is about allowing God to
enter and change your life the way he wants. I hope he will continue
throughout my life.
