I arrived in Derby at the end of August in
2002 to start a graduate engineering job with a railway company.
Initially I wasn't enthusiastic about moving to Derby for two reasons.
Number one I didn't know anybody in the locality and number two it
didn't appear to be most glamorous place in the world; although I know
better now! In my first week I felt quite lonely and very unsettled and
I prayed to God that I would find a good Church and make some Christian
friends. I tried out several churches in the town mainly in the city
centre due to my accommodation being close by, however they either had
no one else my age in the congregation or I wasn't comfortable with
their style of worship - I come from quite a traditional background.
After about 5 weeks I remembered my sister had searched on the internet
for 'Evangelical Churches in Derby' and the church she had found was
Woodlands. I went along on a Sunday evening where I found scriptural
teaching and the members of the congregation to be friendly. Eleven
months on and I now feel settled in the church and have made many
Christian friends, both of which have been a real answer to prayer.
